New: column connection boxes, fuses and earth braids in the NEXUS line

What is new

You rarely order a lighting column on its own. At the base of the column, behind the door, belongs a connection box in which the ground cable is looped through and the luminaire gets its own fuse. Until now you had to source those parts elsewhere. With the new NEXUS line, Lichtplein supplies them together with the column and the luminaire, on one quote and to one project address.

The line comprises seven items:

• LS94 column connection box for two fuses
• LS94 column connection box for one fuse with phase selection
• Porcelain E27/DII screw cap
• E27/DII fuse cartridges of 2 A, 4 A and 6 A
• Earth braid of 300 mm and 6 mm², with M6 and M8 lugs

Two boxes to the Dutch standard

Both boxes are built to the Dutch standard for public lighting and fit columns from Ø 94 mm at door height. They have five terminals (three phases, neutral and earth), each taking two 10 mm² conductors or three 6 mm² conductors, with automatic earthing. The ground cable is therefore looped through inside the box to the next column, without separate junction boxes.

The single-fuse box is the standard choice for a column with one luminaire. With the pin you select which phase the column is connected to, so you can spread the columns in a street neatly across L1, L2 and L3. Choose the two-fuse box for two luminaires on a double bracket, or for one luminaire plus a second circuit, for example for festive lighting or a camera.

Fuses and screw caps: 2, 4 or 6 amps

The fuse cartridges are DII type with an E27 thread and sit in a porcelain screw cap. Box, screw cap and cartridge are ordered separately: one screw cap and one cartridge per fuse position. Public lighting usually uses 6 A, sometimes 2 A. An LED street luminaire of 25 to 100 W draws less than half an amp at 230 V, but the inrush current of the driver is briefly much higher. So choose the rating on the basis of the driver specification and check discrimination with the circuit protection in the distribution board.

Earth braid: small part, big role

A steel column is a conductive object in the street and must be connected to the protective conductor. The earth braid of 300 mm and 6 mm² has one M6 lug and one M8 lug: one end on the earth terminal of the box, the other on the earth point of the column or door. Without that connection the column is not earthed and the installation does not comply. So allow one braid per column as standard and do not leave it out of the quote.

How a column fits completely into your quote

The NEXUS items fit the door opening of the TURRIS steel columns (4 and 6 metres, hot-dip galvanised or powder coated in RAL 9005) and the CIVIS aluminium columns. Per light point you allow:

• 1 column
• 1 column connection box, for one or two fuses
• 1 screw cap and 1 fuse cartridge per fuse position
• 1 earth braid
• 1 luminaire, for example a VIA street luminaire or a POLARIS post-top luminaire on the 60 mm spigot, both IP66

Mind the pack sizes: boxes are supplied individually, screw caps and earth braids are packed per 20 and fuse cartridges per 25. For a street of 20 columns with one fuse per column, one pack of each is therefore enough. NEXUS prices are on request.
